iOS Supervised Setup Guide

How to set up Truple on a supervised device

Last updated: September 1, 2025

Accountability apps are full of loopholes on iOS. However, some of those loopholes can be closed by making your iPhone/iPad run in supervised mode. Supervised mode unlocks certain administrative abilities that allow you to lock down Truple's monitoring of the device better. The video guide below takes you through the steps of making the iOS device supervised, then installing the supervised Truple mobileconfig profile.

A few words of caution first though. We only recommend you do these steps if you're highly technical. We wish it wasn't so complicated--but we can't change how Apple designs this process. Also, this process requires that the iPhone/iPad have all of it's contents erased, and in our experiencing using a backup from an unsupervised device causes the phone to lose it's supervised status, so using a restore mechanism doesn't work. You truly have to erase everything, and then put it all back on the device.

Before you get started, you'll need the following:

  1. The iPhone/iPad you wish to lock down
  2. A Macbook or Mac with Apple Configurator 2 installed.
  3. A cord & adapter to connect your iPhone to your Mac. For this I had to use my lightning port cable with a USB to USB-C adapter.

SWITCHING TO SUPERVISED MODE REQUIRES WIPING/ERASING ALL CONTENT OFF THE IPHONE/IPAD

We do not recommend you do these steps unless you've already used Truple on the iPhone/iPad in unsupervised mode, and found it works well for you except for the fact that it can be disabled.
